Sweet Surrender

Summer! The calendar is full with camp and swim lessons, family gatherings, outdoor concerts; every day a new fruit or vegetable is ready to harvest while another is on their way out. We are in constant motion, dirty, sweaty, happy. We go to bed fully used up, asleep before our heads hit the pillow.

Summer is a season of abundance; it is full and wild but also fleeting. I do not want to miss its riches. I must slow down and stand still for a bit. Savor. For now, I will let the dishes pile up, let the floor go unswept. I want to watch my boys pick blackberries, let peach juice make us sticky, get sore from pulling weeds.

A little bit of filling up and a little bit of letting go. Yes. Just right for this season.
