As winter settles in, we find ourselves outside less and in the kitchen more; it is the gathering place, more than any other room in this little home of ours. In the morning we warm the kitchen with baking, and thus we all tend to linger there, bringing projects to the table (or toys to the floor, as it goes).
There are muffins, popcorn, and granola to graze on, and often a big pot of soup is simmering on the stove. Simple food that feels nourishing when the weather is cold and we are busy with the good work of being inside.
As the family rhythm plays out, we wander to other rooms to read, nap, have time alone; but then, we always come back here, to gather and share.
I love that about our kitchen in winter.
